Why do I do this to myself?

October 24, 2006

I have no power with which to fight the cable company. They know my weaknesses, and they manipulate those weaknesses with unspeakable ferocity.

For example, I now have contracted with Comcast to provide my digital cable (with HBO, Showtime, and Starz, of course), internet, and phone. Somehow I was convinced this was a good deal.

But you know what a good deal is? Not having so many damn options! Look, I’m a simple man (quite simple, if you ask some people). I don’t need to have Law and Order HD on with Die Hard 2: Die Harder on the pop-up window, while surfing the wireless internet and making unlimited long distance calls.

Oh yeah, I got talked into that too. Unlimited long distance…the perfect gift for the man who has everything and hates talking on the phone.

When I’m 72 and can finally retire, maybe I can rent an apartment from the Comcast worker-cum-landlord whose children I put through college.

  1. hey there… was stumbling across blogs & found your entries. i found this one particularly funny because i’ve been holding onto the comcast advertisement that was delivered to taunt me. i’d love to have cable, but like you, i kind of think the options would mock me.

as for your food/wine entry – i agree. i just moved here about 10 mos ago & while the food might be decent here, the prices don’t seem to equate. although, i do think i remember a few places that offer the 1/2 priced wine on certain nights of the week… if only i could remember where those places were to tell you!
